DESCRIPTION: 【Hope Conquers All】Día de Muertos (The Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday to remember late friends and family members. Ironically, it’s not a day of sadness, but a day of happiness and hope. This holiday originated from the Aztec culture, and the ancient Aztecs believed mourning the dead was an insult as the death is another beginning for the new spiritual journey. During the long-run COVID-19 pandemic, almost 300,000 people died and the world is full of grief and despair. Through Calavera (skull)—the common symbol of the Day of the Dead—I wanted to cherish COVID-19 victims, and at the same time, I wanted to accentuate the frontline medical staff who are striving to make a bright future for the people of the world. Eventually, hope conquers all.
