135 lives were lost after the Arema Football Club match against Persebaya at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, East Java, Indonesia, on October 1st, 2022. Where 40 of them were still a child. This is a football second biggest tragedy considering the loss of life number in the world after Estadio Nacional Disaster, Lima, Peru, which killed 328 people on May 24th , 1964.

The Kanjuruhan Tragedy occurred after the police guard fired tear gas into the stands at the end of the match. Those who panicked and couldn't see because of the tear gas scrambled away, and sought to the exit door but the stadium doors were closed. Most of those who died, piled up on the stairs leading to gate 13.

After conducting an autopsy, the police proclaimed that the death was not due to tear gasses, in contrast to the statement from the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), which stated that the death was due to tear gasses.

Aremania (the supporter of Arema Football Club) was furious to hear the police's conclusion, they fought on the streets by holding various protest signs. The victim's family demands justice and asks the perpetrators to be punished as severely as possible.

However, the panel of judges in Surabaya district court ruled to acquit the two cops who were in charge on the night of the incident based on consideration that they are not proven to have committed any crime on those horrible cases which caused the death of 135 people. The judges believe the tear gas smoke was blown by the wind to reach the tribune of the stadium.

Amnesty International condemned the acquittal, they stated that the authority continuously failed to serve justice towards the police violence’s victims, even though they did promise to demand accountability from the parties involved.

Amnesty International insisted on the Indonesian Government to ensure the accountability of all Police Forces involved in the Kanjuruhan tragedy. Thus, including the people in the command line. This insistence aims to guarantee justice and to break any immunity chain.

This tragedy also became one reason that FIFA had to cancel Indonesia as the host of FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023.

Recently 4th June 2022 one such container depot name BM container depot at Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong faced chemical explosion and fire. 49 people confirmed dead in the blaze, also the mixing of chemicals in the air and water has a devastating effect on the environment. Chemical burns mixed with toxic gases in the air. Along with future development, human resource should be improved. The environment will lose clean air and people will lose their lives due to accident.
