At 12:52 on September 5, 2022, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 occurred in Luding County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, with a focal depth of 16 kilometers. In one of the most severely damaged areas by the earthquake, on the Dagangshan Dam in Wanggangping Yi and Tibetan Township, Shimian County, Ya'an City, rescuers lay on the ground during intermittent breaks.
