Bhagyalaxmi Narayan Rao
Illustrator / Singapore
About
An artist, a dreamer and a lover of all things whimsical, Bhagya's art reflects the splendor of life. Her work spans multiple mediums which includes pen and ink, acrylics and watercolors.
Known for her unique style defined by highly detailed work where intuition and creativity flow together spontaneously this distinctive approach draws viewers in, tempting them to take a closer look and inviting them to step into the painting and be one with the painting- whether immersed in the vibrant colors of nature, witnessing deities as they shake the world with their grace and thunder or following black trails of ink into a world of exploration.
The artist has participated in a number of local and international exhibitions since 2022 and was shortlisted for the UOB Painting of the Year 2024.
The artist lives, laughs and paints in the wonderful city of Singapore with her husband, 2 suspiciously well behaved kids, a cat and dog ( who is a good boy! )
In Oct 2024, she was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Illustration).
Artist Statement
My approach to art is instinctive and immersive, inviting the audience to have a dialogue with the work itself. My paintings have a meditative and repetitive quality to them that gives them a mesmerizing effect almost like a visual journey for the audience. My creative process mirrors the unknowns of the future offering endless opportunities to explore new directions. By leaving the final outcome open my process aligns with a sense of discovery both for me and my audience.
Ultimately I want to open my viewers to the world's possibilities guiding them to see beyond the surface and encouraging a deeper appreciation of this fragile life's beauty and mystery.
