ABOUT
Fabeha Monir is a Bangladesh-based visual journalist who uses still images, text, and video to provide multi-faceted storytelling for editorial and non-profit clients. As a humanist photographer, she tells people-focused stories exploring social development, migration, gender violence, and forced exile in marginalized communities. She uses an in-depth involvement approach to tell stories to reflect meaningfulness about her human stories.
Being a native Bangladeshi, she has extensive work experience in Bangladesh. And other reporting experience in Nepal and Greece. In addition to English, she is fluent in Bangla, Hindi, and Urdu.
In 2016 she worked closely with the multicultural refugee community during the refugee influx in Greece. And later on, she has been covering the Rohingya refugee influx in Bangladesh since 2017.
Her editorial clients include The New York Times, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Stern Magazine, Elle Magazine, Amnesty International, NRC, The Telegraph UK, Al Jazeera News, BBC News and so on.
She is the Co-creator of a multidisciplinary project, Immersive Storytelling of Rohingya Refugee Experience includes a narrative film, a VR experience, and a documentary film funded by Davis projects for peace, Ray LC Team led along with Anika Ullah. She has produced and directed films on Covid19 response in the World's largest refugee camp, which will broadcast worldwide at the end of 2021.
In Feb 2023, she was invited to join the Global Artists Committee of the Asian Art Association and be judge of Asian Press Photo 2023.
Artist Statement
I take on issues that stir her passion about the state of humanity. I am a passionate believer and practitioner of ethical storytelling, trained in working cross-culturally and dedicated to crafting sophisticated visual stories that offer new perspectives, promote emotional intelligence, and evoke contemplation. What drives my work is the potential for storytelling to bring change and initiate dialogue. I am especially drawn to change-driven projects that serve a community or a cause. I believe that the heart of change involves an intimate and involved storytelling approach.
