Me and Nanyang Siang Pau
I started reading Nanyang Siang Pau in Grade 4 of elementary school. From submitting articles to the Student's Corner, I became a reporter for the “Green Seedling” in secondary school, participated in holiday camps and writing workshops, and served as the president of the Nanyang Students' Club. It was a mentor and a friend that made my school career colorful.
From interviewing and soliciting advertisements at Klang to working at the Head Office in 2000, where I was responsible for the business, distribution, editing and cultural and educational activities of educational publications, I had the opportunity to come into contact with different jobs, and I have always regarded this job as a responsibility and a mission to pass on the Chinese culture.
Chinese organizations, Chinese education and Chinese newspapers are the “three pillars” of Chinese societies in China.
Nanyang Siang Pau not only publishes the student publication “Nanyang Student” and promotes the “Morning Reading Program” on campuses, but also organized the “Ten Benefit Performances” in 1987 to raise funds for Chinese schools and Chinese education, and to promote Chinese language education and public welfare. “In 2019, the Ten Charity Performances will raise a total of RM550 million.
Mr. Tan Kah Kee founded the Nanyang Siang Pau 100 years ago. As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of its launch, we hope that the Chinese community will continue to support and maintain the newspaper as they have done in the past, so that it will grow stronger and stronger and continue to serve the country, the Chinese community and the Chinese education sector!
