He Wenhong

Painter / China

About

He Wenhong, from Zhaoqing, Guangdong, China, is a painting artist dedicated to exploring the “fragmented expression of memory”. His works include oil painting and calligraphy, and he is constantly searching for a new self in the transformation of different materials and forms. He believes that art is not only a visual presentation, but also a language of the silent, capable of transcending the limitations of words and expressing unspeakable emotions and memories.

In terms of creative concepts, He Wenhong is obsessed with deconstructing everyday things, giving new meanings to rusted, cracked or forgotten old objects, making them show surreal poetic meanings. His works emphasize the fusion of art and life, and focus on the “eternal moments in the passage of time”, trying to capture the fleeting beauty in his paintings. Always wary of repeating himself, he continues to experiment with new artistic techniques, such as combining traditional craftsmanship with AI-generated technology, in order to find unique inspiration in uncertainty.

In March 2025, he was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Traditional Painting) as a lifetime member.

Artist Statement

Art is important to me

1. It is the language of the silent

Art does not rely on words, but can cross cultural barriers, allowing difficult to express emotions, memories, or social metaphors to find outlets through color, form, and space. My creations often start with an 'unfinished question' rather than a definite answer.

2. It is a prism for reconstructing reality

I am obsessed with deconstructing everyday things - a rust stain, a crack, a forgotten old thing - by piecing together, transforming, or imbuing new contexts, allowing ordinary things to reflect surreal poetry. Art doesn't have to be noble, but it needs to be honest.

3. It is a secret conversation with others

What the audience reads from the work may far exceed my expectations. This openness fascinates me: a painting hanging on the wall, yet in the hearts of every person who gazes at it, a different story emerges. The value of art lies in this' unfinished communication '.

4. It is a ritual to resist forgetting

In the era of efficiency first, art is like a slow confrontation. I use lacquer art to capture the beauty of the moment when flowers bloom.

5. It is a dangerous yet free experiment

True creation needs to offend the comfort zone. I am wary of repeating myself, and in recent years, I have attempted to combine traditional craftsmanship with AI generation, allowing technology to "make mistakes" and capture unexpected beauty in the process of losing control.
