Ieo Gek Ching
Painter / Singapore
ABOUT
Born in Singapore, Ieo Gek Ching is an emerging young artist with a graduate Honors degree in Fine Arts from LaSalle College of the Arts. She is interested in the hybridism of the natural environment and influenced by the different idiosyncrasies and characteristics of each different animal, and aptly expresses her concern on the ecological environment through her Art.
Gek Ching’s advocacy for the unique and unusual has developed into her newest style, and with a more pronounced use of colour she breathes a different kind of life into her hybrid creations. Their intricate nature unfolds and evolves upon her specially prepared paper, yet the resembled expressions of their living ancestors is both startling and beautiful.
Statement
“Even in today’s world, humans are still on the mission of discovering new animals. We are still far away from understanding the beauty of Nature and its functionality, and the very creatures which make nature their habitat. In this universe, there are many magnificent species that arouse my imagination. Every behavior and characteristic of theirs intrigues me and has unleashed a fantasy that creates an animalistic platform of my own. All of my art pieces are reflections of my inner feelings that I have for these wonderful animals.”
