About

Jingwen Lu is a PhD researcher at Middlesex University, focusing on community dance and its impact within Chinese cultural frameworks. Currently a lecturer at Hubei University of Education, he specializes in the development of community dance practices.

In addition to his research, Lu teaches Men’s Chinese Folk Dance and serves as a visiting lecturer in Dance Performance at WenHua College. He has been involved in various projects, including the Dance Art-Talent Fostering Program for the China EnShi TuJia Folk Dance, where he contributed as a performer and participant.

Lu actively engages in educational initiatives, having worked as a teaching assistant in the China National Training Program for rural teachers, promoting cultural understanding through dance. He has presented his work at notable forums, including the Annual Art Forum 2022 and the 9th JingChu Culture Research Youth Scholars Forum.

In Oct 2024, he was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Traditional Dance).

Research

Lu has authored several academic papers on Tujia folk dance, including publications in national-level periodicals such as China National Exhibition and Mass Literature and Art. His research focuses on the value of intangible cultural heritage dance, with key works exploring the significance of the Tujia folk dances “Dragon-rolling with LianXiang” and “Sa Ye Er Ho.” Additionally, He was involved in the creation and design of high-quality textbooks and online courses on Tujia folk dance, which have been adopted by universities across China. His guide rehearsal work, including the group dance “Dragon-rolling with LianXiang,” earned the Excellent Education Achievement Award at the prestigious Taoli Cup National Dance Performance Awards. He has also presented my research at various national and provincial academic forums, contributing to the field of folk dance studies.

Honors

His artistic achievements include winning the Silver Award at the 13th Korean International Dance Competition for his choreography of “Spark” and receiving the Excellent Education Achievement Award for his group dance “Dragon-rolling with LianXiang” at the 12th “Taoli Cup.”
