Yiyu Lin
Young Dancer / China
About
Yiyu Lin is a dance artist from Guangdong, China. She began studying Chinese classical and folk dance at the age of 10 and later pursued professional dance training in the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a Master’s degree in Dance from the University of West London, UK.
She was a full-time dancer with BeijingDance/LDTX, performing in numerous works such as Free Man From The South by Sing Yuen Willy Tsao, Three Blank Episodes by Zi Wei, and Gleaner of Time by Liu Bin, touring extensively across China, Hong Kong, Macau, and various arts festivals.
Her creative style blends cultural tradition with contemporary expression. Her representative works, including Those Strange Days and Inner Peace, focus on emotional resilience and self-awareness. She is dedicated to using dance as a medium for self-expression and cross-cultural dialogue. In her teaching, she advocates for holistic education, encouraging individuals to explore authenticity and connection through movement.
Currently working as a dancer, choreographer, and educator, she continues to practice her belief that “when you dance with your heart, your body will naturally respond.”
In March 2025, she was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Modern Dance).
Artist Statement
I believe that dance is an art form that transcends language and cultural boundaries. It is not merely a performance technique but a physical language that gives shape to emotions and anchors experiences.
Dance is my way of engaging in dialogue with the world.
My artistic practice stems from an exploration of human emotions, identity, and connection. I enjoy weaving traditional elements with contemporary expressions, using the body to tell stories of the present day. From YIYU (抑郁), which portrays internal struggles, to Inner Peace, which seeks tranquility, I have always believed that dance has the power to evoke resonance and create spaces of empathy.
For me, dance extends beyond the stage. It is a way of life — a force for understanding, healing, and transformation.
In the future, whether through creation, teaching, or collaboration, I hope that dance will continue to serve as a bridge that connects hearts and reveals authenticity.
