World Famous Young Erhu Performer & Professor of Folk Music Department of Central Conservatory of Music / China
ABOUT
Born in 1981 in Shanghai, Sun Huang studied with Prof. Lin Xinming and Prof. Wang Lili at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music since 1991, and was recommended by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2000 for admission to the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Prof. Liu Changfu, a renowned erhu player and educator. She has also received guidance from many famous artists. In 2004, she was guaranteed a master's degree and graduated from the school in 2007, and served as the principal of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra in 2005. She is currently a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, Deputy Secretary General of the Huqin Professional Committee of the Chinese National Orchestral Society, and Vice President of the Erhu Society of the Beijing Music Association.
In April 2023, she was invited to join the Asian Arts Association Singapore and be judge for the World Erhu Competition 2023.
Honor
Since 1988, she has won 12 first prizes in major competitions in Shanghai and nationwide, and is the recipient of four consecutive titles in top domestic and international competitions in the erhu field. In 2002, she won the Gold Medal in the Erhu Youth Professional Group of the First National Youth Folk Instrumental Solo Competition of the Ministry of Culture; in 2002, she won the First Prize in the Youth Professional Group of the Second Longin Cup Chinese Folk Music (Erhu) International Competition; in 2007, she won the Gold Medal of the Sixth Chinese Music Award "Golden Bell Award "In 2007, she won the gold medal in the erhu competition of the 6th Chinese Music Award, the Golden Bell Award, and in 2009, she won the first prize in the erhu youth group of the CCTV National Instrumental Music TV Competition.
In 2009, she was named the first "Chinese Folk Music Newcomer of the Year" in 2009-2010. His biography was included in the "Chinese Musicians Directory" (People's Music Publishing House) and the "Chinese Music Dictionary" (Shanghai Music Publishing House).
In 2017, the album "Chusong" won the Best Performance Award in the Instrumental Music category of the 10th China Golden Record Awards.
In 2019, she was awarded the National Arts Foundation project grant to successfully hold the Ode to the Motherland - Sun Huang Erhu Solo Concert.

In 2009, as the first Chinese folk musician invited by Turkey, she performed a large-scale concerto with the Izmir National Symphony Orchestra of Turkey; in 2010, she was invited to perform at the CCTV New Year Concert and the opening ceremony of the 9th China Arts Festival; in May 2015, she was invited to perform at the 32nd Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. "In May 2015, she was invited to perform as soloist in the 32nd Shanghai Spring International Music Festival; in July of the same year, she was invited to give a solo recital at the 5th European "Long Lake Music Festival" in Switzerland; and so on.
She has successfully collaborated with famous orchestras such as the China National Symphony Orchestra and the Taipei City State Orchestra on large-scale concertos, and with famous conductors such as Yu Long, Li Xincao and Yan Huichang, etc. She was also received by Austrian President Klestil and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
She has also been invited by Austrian President Klestil and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to give solo concerts or lectures on erhu. For example, she was invited to give a lecture on erhu at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music in the Netherlands (in English). In December 2013, she was invited to give an exchange lecture at Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and in May 2015, she was invited to give a series of lectures for Chinese musicians at the National Library. She has also served as a judge for many erhu competitions at home and abroad.
Since 2003, she has published and released 10 erhu albums by Hong Kong Dragon Music Company and China Record Corporation. She independently edited the book "Efficient Training of Erhu Playing Technique" (300,000 words), which was published by Anhui Literature and Arts Publishing House in 2012, and published several papers in books and journals such as "The Great Book of Chinese Music" and "Journal of the Central Conservatory of Music".
In 2010 and 2016, she held two successful concerts for teachers and students. She has won several awards as an excellent instructor in domestic and foreign erhu competitions.
