About

Yang Yi holds dual master's degrees in Aesthetics and Philosophy, and a bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature, with a minor in English and proficiency in Japanese and French. She graduated from Sichuan Normal University. Her graduate thesis, recognized as an outstanding national master's thesis, was published in a core academic journal. In 2009, she joined the Ministry of Education in Singapore, where she has been dedicated to promoting Chinese reading and writing. As a representative teacher, she contributed to the reading program of MOE earning a Silver Award and high praise from Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Sim Ann.

Yang Yi has also conducted extensive research into the early teaching experiences of senior Chinese language educators in Singapore. Her academic paper was invited for inclusion in the proceedings of the International Conference on the Development of Chinese as a Second Language, hosted by the University of Hawaii. At the Singapore Poetry Festival, she presented her prose poetry through performance art and introduced the concept of "Neighborhood Slow." Additionally, she published a scholarly paper on renowned Taiwanese director Edward Yang and his films.

Passionate about Chinese writing education for secondary school students in Singapore, Yang Yi has shared her teaching philosophy at the International Symposium on the Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second Language. As an invited speaker, she advocated for an approach to writing that emphasizes “Realness, novelty and creativity—compositions that express a sense of true story.” With over a decade of experience in Chinese language education, she continues to contribute to the Ministry of Education in Singapore.

In December 2024, she was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Literature).
