ABOUT

Yi Jiale, a young and outstanding yangqin (Chinese hammered dulcimer) performer, became the soloist for the theme song of the game "League of Legends" in 2023. She studied under Professor Huang He, a Ph.D. supervisor at the Central Conservatory of Music, and Professor Xie Yuhong, a master's supervisor at Tianjin Conservatory of Music. In recent years, Yi Jiale has gained recognition in the United States for her exceptional contributions to education and performance. Not only has she received the "Outstanding Person" certificate from U.S. Congress members, mayors, and county executives, but she has also participated in numerous concerts in the U.S. As a yangqin soloist, she has been invited to perform by the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, captivating audiences with unforgettable musical feasts. Her artistic achievements have garnered attention from the Chinese American Television Station, which featured an interview on her musical journey. Collaborating successfully with Hollywood, Yi Jiale recorded an outstanding performance for the 2023 "League of Legends" theme song, infusing new vitality into the development of yangqin art. In September 2023, she was invited to join the Asian Arts Association (Music) in Singapore.

Artistic Heritage

In Yi Jiale's yangqin performances, one can observe not only reverence and inheritance of traditional repertoire but also a relentless pursuit of innovation and experimentation. Her distinctive playing style showcases a rich personality, skillfully utilizing yangqin techniques to create dynamic musical effects. Her musical works span various genres, from classical to modern, from Eastern tradition to Western contemporary music, forming a unique and diverse musical language. Furthermore, Yi Jiale actively engages in cross-disciplinary collaborations, co-creating with artists from different fields, breathing new life into the traditional yangqin. Her musical compositions resonate not only in concert halls but also extend to realms such as film and advertising, expanding the expressive possibilities of yangqin. In July 2023, she recorded film score at the renowned Eastwest Studio in Hollywood for "Dragon Keeper," a Sino-Spanish co-production by Dragoia Media, Movistar+, Atresmedia Cine, and China Film Animation. The film, slated for release in 2024, is the largest collaboration between China and Spain to date. Overall, Yi Jiale has successfully elevated yangqin music to new artistic heights through her profound artistic philosophy and exceptional playing skills, injecting modern vitality and creativity into this traditional instrument.

Honor

Yi Jiale is a member of the World Chinese Musicians Association, the Chinese Musicians Association, and serves as the Executive Director of the Hunan Musicians Association in China. She holds the position of Chief Yangqin Performer in the Chinese Orchestra under the Melano Cultural Performing Arts Company in the United States and serves as a judge for the "Inheritance Cup" International Music Competition.

In 2014, Yi Jiale was invited to be the Chief Yangqin Performer and soloist for the opening concert of the Global Chinese Classical Studies Convention. In 2015, she participated as the Chief Yangqin Performer in the opening ceremony of the 8th Global Chinese Cultural Classics Recitation Conference. Yi Jiale was also invited to hold solo concerts and lectures on Chinese traditional music appreciation at venues like Alfred University and high schools in North Syracuse, New York. Her performances received coverage in local newspapers and on the official website of Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters).

In 2016, as the Chief Yangqin Performer, she participated in the "Yuelu Academy's 1040th Anniversary Celebration of Hunan University and the 90th Naming Anniversary Series - Folk Music Performance and Conducting Art Exhibition."

In 2018, Yi Jiale was honored with the "Outstanding Person" certificate by U.S. Congress members, county executives in California and Hawaii, and the mayor of West Covina, California.

She has also achieved significant recognition, including the Yangqin Gold Award in the U.S. World Cup of Folk Instrumental Music, the Silver Award in the National Yangqin Invitational Competition in China, the Gold Award in the China-Australia Arts Exchange International Competition, the Gold Award at the Sydney International Campus Arts Festival, the Gold Award in the Hunan region of the China Music Golden Bell Awards, and the Gold Award in the Hunan region of the CCTV National Folk Instrumental Music Competition, among others.
