Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritor of Miao Embroidery in Guizhou / China
About
Zhang Yong, male, Miao nationality, was born in Kerry, Guizhou in July 1965. He is a senior middle school teacher and a member of the Communist Party of China. Since joining the work in 1989, he has been rooted in the front line of education for a long time. He has served as the secretary of the general branch of the school league, the secretary of the league committee, the chairman of the trade union, the secretary of the party branch and other positions.
In his long-term work, Zhang Yong has won many honorary titles such as Kerry City Excellent League Cadre, Outstanding Trade Union Worker of the Education System, Excellent Party Worker, Municipal Excellent Teacher, State-level Excellent League Cadre, Municipal Outstanding Communist Party Member, etc., showing outstanding organizational ability and educational sentiment.
In addition to education, Zhang Yong loved literary creation, the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage, the integrated development of culture and tourism, and the promotion of rural and folk tourism all his life. Since 2001, he began to work part-time in non-heritage projects such as Miao embroidery. It has been 24 years now, and he has accumulated rich experience and deep feelings. In 2012, he joined the Qiandongnan Ethnic Arts and Crafts Industry Association, and became a member of the Guizhou Arts and Crafts Association in 2024.
In 2025, he joined the China Arts and Crafts Association, and in the same year, he was awarded the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance Certificate certified by the State Copyright Office.
For a long time, Zhang Yong has devoted himself enthusiastically to the cause of embroidery and arts and crafts, and made a lot of useful exploration and contributions to the inheritance and protection of non-heritage, showing the persistence and feelings of a grass-roots cultural watchman.
In April 2025, he was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Fiber & Textile Arts / Textile Design) and the Asian Art Association Singapore (Intangible Cultural Heritage / Inheritance of Traditional Skills).
Artist Statement
I have been engaged in intangible cultural heritage activities such as Miao embroidery part-time since 2001, and I love embroidery and other arts and crafts and intangible cultural heritage. I also deeply know that the key is the further improvement of practical skills, so that there can be the inheritance and innovation of Chinese arts and crafts non-heritage. At present, I am seriously studying skills in the fields of non-heritage such as arts and crafts, appreciate the artistic achievements of intangible cultural heritage, transcend myself, and strive to be the best of myself.
Artistic Achievement
Since he has been engaged in non-heritage activities such as Miao embroidery part-time, he have always learned skills from excellent representative inheritors with a humble heart. He is not ashamed to ask questions and have made new breakthroughs in the fields of Miao embroidery and other arts and crafts. In 2013, he assisted the Haojuxiang ethnic handmade embroidery workshop in Kerry City to learn embroidery and other arts and crafts.
In 2021, he assisted in the establishment of Guizhou Bangfang Fan Ethnic Crafts Co., Ltd. to learn embroidery and other arts and crafts; in 2021, he assisted in the establishment of Liu Zhonglan Miao Embroidery Studio in Kerry City, learning embroidery and other arts and crafts: in 2024, he joined the Guizhou Arts and Crafts Association, studied embroidery and other arts and crafts, and became a member; in the same year, after the national Social art education teacher training, learn traditional art (Miao embroidery), issue a senior vocational qualification teacher level certificate; in the same year, participate in the professional ability training of art teachers, issue a non-genetic inheritance senior teacher certificate; in 2025, join the Chinese Academy of Arts and Crafts, learn embroidery and other arts and crafts, membership; in the same year, participate in 2025 Chinese Cultural Heritage Open Course sponsored by China Cultural Relics Newspaper——Online training class for museum interpreters.
The artistic achievements are as follows:
1. The company's work "Colorful Miao Clothes" was selected as a fine product of the 2016 China (Guizhou) International Ethnic Folk Culture Tourism Expo;
2. The company's work "Building the Chinese Dream Together" was selected as the 2016 China (Guizhou) International Ethnic Folk Culture Tourism Expo;
3. The Organizing Committee of Qianshi 2017 Non-heritage Culture and Art Week awarded Zikai City Haojuxiang Ethnic Handmade Embroidery Workshop as a "Specially Invited Exhibitor";
4. The enterprise Kaili City Haoxiang Ethnic Handmade Embroidery Workshop performed outstandingly in the on-site display of the 7th China Suzhou Cultural and Creative Design Industry Trade Expo (and Suzhou Cultural and Creative Week) in 2018;
5. The works selected by Guizhou Pangfang Fan Ethnic Crafts Co., Ltd. won the Innovative Silk Product Award at the 19th China National Silk Expo 2018;
6. In the theme of the sixth world cultural heritage of the Dunhuang Art Inheritance Project in China in 2025: the Outstanding Traditional Cultural Heritage of China "Dunhuang Inheritance Cup" Excellent Special Student Social Practice Certificate, it won the special prize of the instructor;
7. In 2025, it was certified by the relevant national copyright agencies, and obtained the certificate of in-genetic inheritor of China's intangible cultural heritage, and was awarded the title of "Guizhou Miao Embroidery Skill Inheritor";
8. Participated in the 2025 "Arts and Crafts Designer" vocational skills ability training organized by the China Federation of Light Industry, and was awarded a first-class/senior technician;
9. In the Art-d2025 4th Global Chinese Art and Design Award Competition, the work "Harmonious Symbiosis" won the professional group excellent award.
