Since the 1960s, Singapore has embarked on a long journey of urban greening.Today, parks, green belts and botanical gardens across the island make Singapore an internationally recognised model of a green city. A modern city where green space and urban life are intertwined, Singapore has become a world-recognised ‘Garden City’ and is in the process of becoming a ‘City in a Garden’, as it continues to embrace the vision of integrating ecological conservation with urban development.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens is not only an important cultural icon for Singapore, but also a tourist attraction for visitors from around the world. As the world's first tropical botanical garden to be listed as a World Heritage Site, the Singapore Botanic Gardens has witnessed this evolution and is a perfect representation of modern-day harmony between people and nature.

To further promote the concept of ‘Harmony with Nature’, the Asian Art Association Singapore (AAA), in conjunction with the National Parks Board of Singapore and the World Heritage Site - Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG), invites painting and photography enthusiasts from around the world to participate in the following programme ‘Wild City Painting and Photography Exhibition will showcase the beauty of co-existence between modern cities and nature through art.

‘Wild City Painting and Photography Exhibition aims to draw more attention to the relationship between humans and nature through painting and photography, and to explore how to find the tranquillity and beauty of nature in the midst of busy city life. Through this exhibition, participants' artworks will have the opportunity to be appreciated by audiences around the world, conveying the concept of the symbiosis between human and nature, and showcasing the intersection of art and nature to visitors from all over the world.

Highlight

- Combination of art and nature: The theme of this exhibition is centred on ‘Wild City’, where participants are free to give free rein to their creativity and express through their paintings the coexistence and integration of man and nature, the city and the green space. We hope that each piece of artwork is not only a painting or a photo, but also a reflection and praise of the relationship between nature and urban life.

- Cross-border co-operation: This exhibition is jointly organised by the Asian Art Association Singapore, the National Parks Board and the Singapore Botanic Gardens, with the aim of conveying the concept of ‘Wild City’ through the combination of art and nature, so that people from all over the world can explore the beautiful relationship between human beings and nature through the use of paintbrushes and lenses.

- Works to be exhibited: Works in this exhibition will be selected from the Wild City Painting Competition and the Wild City Photo Competition organised by the Asian Art Association Singapore, or can be submitted as individual entries.

- Exhibition Venue: Works will be displayed at the main entrances and exits of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a globally recognised World Heritage Site, to showcase your artistic talents to the world.

- Personal Publicity: Creators can display their Instagram or other social media platforms in their works, directing visitors to their social accounts for personal publicity.

- Certificate of Participation: Participants will receive a certificate of participation from the Asian Art Association Singapore and Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Works Requirements

- The theme of ‘Wild Citiy’ should be followed closely, depicting the harmonious coexistence of human beings and nature;
- Electronic submissions are sufficient and will be printed in high definition by a professional company, in A1 size and at least 600 dpi;
- A total of 48 paintings and photographs will be displayed in the exhibition, with a limited number of spaces available;
