Fan Wei was born in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province in 1972. She studied pipa with her father, Professor Fan Huahua, at the age of six. He studied with the famous pipa educator Professor Hao Yifan and Professor Li Guanghua, and received careful instruction from the famous pipa masters Professor Lin Shicheng and Professor Liu Dehai, as well as the pipa predecessor Mr. Sun Shulin. She is currently a professor of pipa in the Department of Folk Music of the Central Conservatory of Music, a doctoral supervisor, director of the plucked teaching and research group, a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, and secretary-general of the Pipa Professional Committee of the Chinese National Orchestral Society.

Fan Wei is an expert in pipa playing, with a simple and subtle musical style, delicate, sincere and spontaneous emotions, skilful and natural playing techniques, pure and mellow tone, and an ability to interpret different styles of music meticulously with a comprehensive and unique artistic vision.

In June 2023, she was invited to join the Asian Arts Association Singapore as a judge of the World Pipa Competition 2023.

In 2002, he won the first prize in the Pipa professional category of the first national instrumental music competition sponsored by the Ministry of Culture;

In the practice of pipa teaching and education, Professor Fan Wei pays attention to both the moral education of students and the training of basic skills and artistic development, and teaches students according to their aptitude, with leniency and severity.

She has been teaching for many years, and her teaching style is rigorous and meticulous, in-depth, friendly and natural, balancing artistry and performance skills, dedicated to the transmission and promotion of the traditional pipa art, with outstanding teaching achievements.

She has taught students such as Sheng Yuanchun, Shu Fang, Sun Jing, Sun Ying, Chen Hetian, Long Yan, Wang Xuan, Zheng Mengting, Qiao He, Du Du, Zhang Wangyan, Han Mingshi, Fan Yining, Duan Yankun, Zhao Yongwei, Bai Jianuo, Ding Zihan, etc., who have won the "Golden Bell Award", "Wenhua Award", "CCTV Folk Music Competition", and the "China National Music Festival". Competition, "CCTV National Instrumental Music Competition", "Taipei Concerto Competition", "Little Golden Bell Award" Competition, "Dunhuang Cup Pipa Competition "She has won gold and silver in competitions such as "Liaoyuan Cup Pipa Competition", "China-Japan-Korea Pipa Competition" and "Chu Han Cup".

In recent years, she has been invited by Capital Normal University, Yunnan Arts Institute, Northwest University for Nationalities, Shenzhen Arts School, Xi'an Conservatory of Music, etc. to give lectures and performances, which are deeply loved by teachers and students.
