World Erhu Competition 2023

- The World Erhu Competition 2023, organized by the Asian Art Association Singapore, is a professional erhu competition open to participants from all over the world. Entries should be performed on the erhu, and are open to erhu enthusiasts and professional erhu players from all over the world.

· The competition is grouped according to age and professional level, and is divided into Amateur Children Group (6 years old or under), Amateur Children A Group (7-9 years old), Amateur Children B Group (10-12 years old), Amateur Teenager A Group (13-15 years old), Amateur Teenager B Group (16 and 17 years old), Amateur Youth Group (18-44 years old), Amateur Middle-aged and Senior Group (over 45 years old), Professional Platinum Group (25 years old and above), Professional Youth A (18 - 35 years old),Professional Youth B (18 - 35 years old), Professional Teenager Group (17 years old or under), Professional Ensemble Group (No Age Limit).

- Participants may not participate in more than one solo category, but can participate in both the solo and ensemble group. The same participant can participate in more than one ensemble group. No more than 20 players in the ensemble group.

- The Professional Group is for students studying in art colleges and practitioners working in the erhu art. Players from professional music colleges, attached schools, and elementary school majors are not allowed to register for the Amateur Group. Amateur erhu enthusiasts can challenge the professional group.

- The entry requirements for each group of the professional division are as follows:

Professional Platinum Group (25 years old and above)
Erhu professional students, teachers and professional group players and freelancers

Professional Youth A Group (18 years old - 35 years old)
Students, teachers and professional group players from the eleven major music academies in China (including teachers and freelancers from all over the world whose last degree is within three years after graduation from the eleven major music academies)

Professional Youth Group B (18 years old - 35 years old)
Erhu students, teachers and professional group players from art colleges or comprehensive universities

Professional Teenager Group (under 17 years old)
Erhu majors from secondary schools, elementary schools and secondary schools of professional music colleges

- Please fill out the application form with the current status of your school and workplace (if you graduated within three years of your final degree, you will be entered in the final school category). Players will be allowed to apply for groups that are higher than this group, but not lower than the corresponding group. Players who have received the notice of passing the professional audition of professional music academy, secondary school and primary school this year cannot apply for the amateur group competition.

- The entry fee for this competition is S$99/person for the Amateur Solo Group, S$129/person for the Professional Solo Group. Amateur Ensemble Group S$199/group, Professional Ensemble Group S$299/group.

- All performing members of the Ensemble Group will receive a certificate and medal, but only one trophy cup will be awarded to the Ensemble Group. The Huqin Ensemble Group consists of a repertoire of Erhu, Gaohu, Zhonghu, Banhu and Jinghu instruments.

- Submit: You can provide a link to the official application form via file sharing link (e.g. Google Drive, Baidu Cloud, Dropbox, WeTransfer, Microsoft OneDrive, etc.). Please note that we do not accept any links from video streaming sites such as Youku, Tencent Video, Youtube, Vimeo, etc.

- The entry video must be recorded in landscape, no editing or editing, and must be the original performance recording. The camera should be at a proper distance from the stand, so that at least half of the height of the stand can be seen. The video file name should be "Participant's Name - Performance Name", and all files should be placed in the same folder, only one folder link should be shared.

- The judges will rank the entries according to their scores. Out of every 100 pieces, 5 Platinum prizes, 10 Gold prizes, 25 Silver prizes and 60 Bronze prizes will be selected. Outstanding Original Music Award and Outstanding Mentor Award will also be set. The organizing committee has the right to adjust the number of winners according to the number of entries and performance level of each group.

- The repertoire requirements for each group are as follows:

Amateur Preschool Group / Amateur Children Group / Amateur Middle-aged and Senior Group / Amateur Ensemble Group: One work of your choice

Amateur Youth Group: Two works of your choice

Professional Group / Professional Ensemble Group: Two works of your choice with different styles

- Participants are required to memorize the music for the video recording (except for the ensemble group).

- None of the entries may have any kind of accompaniment.

- Judges will score the pieces based on various dimensions such as difficulty, mastery of performance techniques, and musical expression. The difficulty of the piece is also included in the judging. Participants should choose the piece of their own choice that demonstrates their highest level of performance. For group requiring two pieces of their own choice, participants should select two pieces of different genres as specified.

- Participants must attach an electronic score (in PDF format) of the self-chosen piece of music at the time of registration for reference by the judges. The electronic score file should indicate: (1) the name of the participant; (2) the category of the participant. If there is no published score, please provide the composer's permission letter.

- The total performance time of the entry should not exceed 30 minutes.

- For each piece, please submit a text description in Chinese or English (maximum 100 words).

- Before the performance, the performer will announce to the camera "I am XXX, from XX, XXX (City, Country). Today is DD/MM/2023. The following program is for the World Erhu Competition 2023 held by the Asian Art Association Singapore. The performance is XXX", and then perform the Erhu directly without cutting the video.

- The organizing committee will present the "Best Mentor Award" to all the mentor of the Platinum Prize and Gold Prize.

- Any infringement will be recovered according to the law, and the creator will be responsible for the legal responsibility, not the organizer.

- Participants are not allowed to have any contact with the judges during the competition. The judges are not allowed to score their own students. Violators will be disqualified from the competition and confiscate the awards.

- Entries will not be returned and entry fees will not be refunded. The organizer has the right to collect, broadcast, exhibit, publish, etc. the selected works and will not pay any remuneration or rights fees for future use.

- Please make sure that the entry information is correct. If you modify the information or resubmit the work before the deadline of entry, you have to pay the administrative fee of 10 SGD. After the deadline of entry, no modification is allowed.

- The contents on the award certificate are adopted from the information filled in the registration. Please fill in carefully. If you find any mistake, please contact the competition organizing committee within 15 days.

- The organizer has the final right of interpretation of this activity. Registration for the competition indicates compliance with the selection rules and the final selection results of the organizer.
