ABOUT

Ku Paowen (1970- ) is an exceptional Taiwanese conductor and pipa player who has achieved remarkable success in his musical artistry and is dedicated to preserving Chinese culture. He began studying music at the age of 12 and won numerous national competitions, showcasing his exceptional aptitude and tireless effort. He received superb musical training at various top institutions and has attained outstanding proficiency in both conducting and pipa playing.

As a renowned conductor, Ku has held the position of resident conductor for prominent ensembles such as the Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra, displaying remarkable interpretative ability and outstanding leadership talent. In addition to his prowess with conducting and pipa playing, he is also proficient in piano, percussion instruments, cello, and has hosted several well-known music programs. He is widely respected in both the music community and academia. In addition to his successes as a conductor and pipa player, Ku's diverse talents have garnered widespread admiration. He is a versatile artist who excels in multiple fields, making him a respected musician and scholar.

In June 2023, he was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore and be judge of World Pipa Competition 2023.

PROMOTING CHINESE MUSIC

Ku has also served as the full-time conductor of the Singapore National Chinese Orchestra and the Kaohsiung National Orchestra, and hosted the "Oriental Classical" program on Taipei Philharmonic Radio. In 2008, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni of the National Taiwan University of the Arts, and in 2010, he was awarded the Music Conductor Medal of the China Arts Association, and has been awarded the first prize and the Outstanding Achievement Award of the SAU Faculty Composition Exhibition and Research.

Taiwan Philharmonic National Orchestra

With a mission to the development of Chinese music, in 2011, Paul Ku initiated the establishment of the Taiwan Philharmonic Ethnic Orchestra, of which he is the director and music director. The orchestra has achieved great success in just a few years of its existence. In addition to numerous performances that have been well-received, two publications have won six finalists and two awards in the 25th and 27th Golden Music Awards.
