Anniketyni Madian

Sculptor / Malaysia

ABOUT

Anniketyni Madian is a Malaysian-born sculptor born in 1986 and began her artistic career in 2008. She loves working with all kinds of wood, which is the main element in most of the sculptures she creates. She pays attention to details and retouching. She spends most of her time in perfecting the details.

The ideas and concepts behind many of Anniketyni's sculptures are based on local Sarawak sketches and Pua Kumbu textiles. Anniketyni's sculptures combine traditional designs and patterns with their modern interpretations to show their lives.

Deep in Anniketyni's work, Pua Kumbu textiles woven by Sarawak natives are integrated into many life-cycle ceremonies and special events, including fertility, adulthood ceremonies, and funerals. These are considered sacred activities that all women must participate in, and have established feminist values in a society where spirituality is connected with all aspects of daily life.

She joined Global Artists Committee of Asian Art Association in 2020.
