ABOUT

Chen Jiawen is a member of the Chinese National Orchestra Society and the Guzheng Professional Committee of the Chinese National Orchestra Society. She is currently a master's student in the Chinese Music Department at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

She was admitted to the Chinese Music Department at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as the top student in her field. She studied under the guidance of Guzheng artist and national first-class performer, Professor Xu Lingzi, and received a full scholarship. During her studies, she was listed on the Dean's List and graduated with first-class honors, subsequently pursuing a master's degree. She also previously gained admission to the basic class (sixth grade) at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music and the affiliated middle school, where she studied under the guidance of Vice Professor Luo Dezai, a leading figure in Guangdong Han music and a representative of Hakka Zheng music, and received honors and scholarships.

She has received guidance from several Guzheng masters, including Vice Professor Yang Yang, Professor Li Meng, Professor Ji Wei, Professor Yuan Sha, and Vice Professor Song Tingting.

In December 2023, she was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Music).

Performances and Awards

Chen Jiawen has been awarded the Chinese Outstanding Artistic Talent Award at the First World Chinese Arts Festival and the Second World Chinese Youth Arts Festival, as well as the Guzheng Gold Award, the Gold Award in the Professional Solo Group of the First Guangdong Province Chinese National Instrumental Music Competition, the Gold Award in the Youth Professional Group of the Fourth International Youth Guzheng Competition, the Gold Award in the Guzheng Ensemble Group of the Sixth International Guzheng Competition, the Dunhuang Guzheng New Talent at the Fourth Dunhuang Cup Chinese Guzheng Art Elite Exhibition, and the Gold Award in the Youth Professional Group of the Eighth International Guzheng Competition, among others.

The performance received high praise, with the "Yangcheng Evening News" commenting on her playing: "The musical notes are profound, and the passion soars" (Deng Bo); she was featured on the cover of "Lingnan Youth Daily" with the review: "Clear and bright, like pearls falling on a jade plate" (Qiu Lihua); and pianist Dr. Helen Cha praised her: "In terms of absolute skill, she possesses a unique sensibility that can transform the angels and demons in the score into delicate and nuanced sounds, without any unnecessary movements."

In 2007, he was invited by the Chinese National Orchestra Society to perform Guzheng solo at the "Taoli Fenfang" National Youth Folk Music Concert Guangdong Exhibition. In January 2019, he collaborated with Professor Yu Qiwei, a music master from Guangdong, to perform "Zen Temple Bell" at the "Famous Masters Lecture Hall" for the intergenerational inheritance of Cantonese music. In February 2023, he was invited to participate in the recording of the Guzheng performance for the music short film "There is Only One in the World" by the Hong Kong Education Bureau. In July of the same year, he held a solo concert at the invitation of Musica del Cuore in Hong Kong, receiving high praise. This was also the first Chinese music concert organized by Musica del Cuore. In October of the same year, he represented the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in a music exchange concert with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, performing the solo piece "Rushi". The text describes the performer's collaborations and performances with various music groups and conductors, as well as their participation in music festivals and academic exchanges in different cities. This includes performing solo and collaborating with conductors on pieces such as the Guzheng Concerto and participating in events such as the Shanxi Zheng Music Festival and the "Belt and Road" International Zheng Music Academic Exchange Season. The performer has also participated in exchange performances at various venues, including music schools and theaters in Xi'an, Taiwan, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou.

Artistic heritage

Chen Jiawen not only performs and exchanges in various places during her spare time, but also actively promotes the culture of the guzheng. Her students, under her guidance, have won first place in the children's group of the eighth International Guzheng Competition in the Hong Kong region and the gold medal in the final, as well as the gold medal in the primary school group of the seventh "Central Conservatory of Music" Youth Art Exhibition Guzheng Solo in the Shenzhen region and the Guangdong region, and the silver medal in the advanced group of the 75th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. She was also awarded the Best Guiding Teacher in the eighth International Guzheng Competition.
